It seems like developers are turning over a new leaf. More and more of them are embracing green buildings in an effort to boost energy efficiency and cost savings. On average, green buildings can have utility savings of 20% to 50% over traditional buildings. But cost-savings is only the tip of the iceberg for green building benefits. According to Multi-housing News, builders have become more focused on sustainability as heightened resident demand for sustainable features increases.
In fact, an estimated 65% of renters are interested in a community with sustainability/green initiatives, and 78% are interested in a community with Energy Star-certified appliances (2017 NMHC/Kingsley Associates Renter Preferences Report).
According to GreenBiz, Green building certifications such as LEED, BOMA (Building Owners and Managers Association) BEST and Energy Star demonstrate in quantifiable terms a building’s commitment to sustainable design principles. While certifications are important and provide a baseline measure for sustainability, what makes a building stand out is its amenities that demonstrate a visible commitment to the well-being of both people and our planet.
One energy-efficient amenity that can be incorporated into green buildings is electronic parcel lockers. With the increase in online shopping also comes an increase in missed deliveries and carbon emissions. According to ABC News, problems arise when consumers are not at home, as redeliveries add a significant amount of carbon emissions to the environment. In the U.S. alone, the chain of returned goods used 4.5 billion liters of diesel fuel and emitted 12 million tons of carbon emissions in 2015.
Parcel lockers, like those offered by Parcel Pending, simplify the package delivery process for residents and property managers and save valuable time and administrative costs. Thus, the efficiency of our locker systems can reduce the amount of carbon emission that we put into the environment. Our lockers take care of logging, retrieving, and distributing resident packages quickly and effectively with little to no involvement from office staff.
Our lockers can help multifamily communities reduce their carbon footprints in the environment and also provide a premium amenity that adds valuable convenience to residents.
